ARNNet has done a comparison piece between the Sony Xperia Z and the Apple iPhone 5. It’s worth nothing the Z is not actually available yet, but it’s interesting to read the differences between the top of the line Apple phone and arguably the most eagerly anticipated Android phone.

Samsung smartphones outsell Apple

Analyst estimates show Apple sold 17.1 million iPhones in the third quarter of the financial year, 3 million less than expected. Samsung shipped almost 10 million more smartphones, with 27 million sold.

This is the first time Samsung has shipped more smartphones than usual smartphone sales leader, Apple.

Google releases “Wallet”, rivals likely to follow

Google became the first company to allow people to use their smartphones as credit cards when they released “Wallet”, and it is expected their rivals will follow suit.

Not everything went smoothly for Google though, with EBay filing a lawsuit accusing Google of stealing trade secrets to build the platform.

Apple, Amazon.com, eBay and Facebook are all believed to be working on similar technology, also allowing consumers to use smartphones to pay for goods or services.
